the (D) primary leader said about a week and a half ago that stopping travel from china/iran/europe was “xenophobic”. this is what the (D) party’s (including HRC) idea of using science to protect Americans is lmfao, pathetic..

I'm starting to think that we might be headed towards a future where it is illegal to be in public without an N-95 mask for about a year (perhaps starting in July, whenever production makes it feasible).

The reliability of tests and exact understanding of who is capable of transmission seem to be in question right now. I'm looking at a damped sine wave of cases from here until the vaccine is distributed. As the economy opens back up incrementally, we will keep seeing smaller and smaller outbreaks. The health care resources will be more capable each time, but people are going to realize that minimizing transmission is still going to be important.

Man. So there are things we know about this virus so far and it's amazing but scary as fuck. It might not be deadly in terms of death rates but god damn it's officially more contagious then your average flu. What does that mean?
It means a lot of things. Just spend all that free time and think about it. Sometimes it's better to have a virus that is not that contagious with a 60% kill rate then one that is very contagious with a 1% kill rate lol.
We need to know chinas real numbers. That is so crucial to researchers. I swear to god china lying about numbers pisses me off to a point where i want countries to threaten them. Like wtf is the point of holding back crucial information? They fucked us all over by taking their time in december and now they are hold backing real numbers and it's making us know less about the virus. When you fight a virus you need to be open with your data and fight it as one team. Wtf is their problem?
With holding information like that does nothing more but slows researchers down. Ive never hated china so much in my life wtf

It makes other governments look bad. It gives critics more stones to throw. If China's numbers were 2.4%, then some other country at 2.2% wouldn't look so bad (even though 2.2% is terrifying).

Also, hiding the real numbers helps them control their population. If people understood how bad it was, there would be even more riots. This is the first time in a long time that the CPC has a legitimate reason to be concerned about their hold over their people. The second wave in Wuhan is causing some social unrest (aka riots).

We haven't yet gotten to the point where humans think that their struggle against the virus is more important than our old interspecies squabbles.

China should be able to deal with this pretty easily considering it's a communist country. So they could be telling the truth but it's just so hard to trust them.

The USA on the other hand....it's hard to tell them what to do. I see people in public EVERYWHERE. Especially kids and college students.
We still have so many people in the USA that thinks this is nothing more then just a bad flu.
We have 120,000+ cases and probably wayyy more across the USA and it's just being spread. Right now we have college students partying still and infecting people and the past 5 days college students went home to infect their small town and family.

We'll have another surge of cases in 1-2 weeks. FUCK man the USA is strong against other countries but we'll all die in the USA because our government is too scared of our people. The military needs to come in and martial law this shit if our deaths hit over 10,000 and cases goes up.
This is fucked. We're not doing anything right in the USA besides staying home. Even staying 6 feet apart means NOTHING. That does fucking NOTHING LOL. The USA is still spreading it EVERYWHERE man. WE're actively spreading it RIGHT now cause i still see people everywhere coughing and not wearing masks or gloves in public areas. it's fucked and we're not testing enough and we will not test enough until our government does something.

It sucks. THe bad thing is the USA doesn't have experience with this kind of outbreak. Countries that do are doing fine. We're still allowing infected people to spread it to 100's and 1000's right now in the USA while on lockdown lol. All because we refuse to test every sick person with similar symptoms. wtf

The central problem is that for the vast majority of young folks, the coronavirus indeed IS nothing more than a bad flu.
The core issue is that to contain this virus, people who are at little risk would have to make painful changes to their behavior. In liberal democracies, it's hard to enforce something like that.

your posts are just "orange man bad" and don't add any meaning to conversation. We all know he's an egotistical jerk, but that is not pertinent to the issue at hand.

Every unit of medical supplies that gets shipped to one state is depriving 49 other states of that item who also need them. Even if he literally raffled them off at random, it wouldn't make a difference in how good the federal response actually is to the nation as a whole.

The fact the he's childish and petty doesn't impact his job performance in this case.

I was assuming significant undercounting, which isn't a radical assumption considering the limits of testing and screening that still exist.

If we assume the U.S. has 100% perfect reporting, and we were to move from our current high infection rate, to the best infection rate we've seen so far (i.e. we suddenly tied the best in the world at handling it) then it only moves the million mark out to two weeks.

Fair enough, I just figured we were going off the official numbers.
