It was just a union of trade to start with, which is what it should have remained as.

Free movement is also something very important especially in the long run, but some limitations/restrictions should have been implemented.
Maybe it can still be fixed btw, who know :)

they already exist

the schengen agreement includes the demand to install a system of mobile and multinational border controls to provide sufficient security
almost nothing happened since then and there arent many people, who seem to care

The problem isn't freedom of movement among citizens of member states, it's letting certain states become members when they (or the EU) are not ready.

As for non-EU citizens, they should be assigned a member state based on quotas and taking into account certain factors (their personal preference, family members living in a certain place, spoken language, job opportunities, etc) whenever possible. For a few years they'd only be able to work and receive full access to public services and benefits in their state.

And renege the potential that a wealthy and developed society of half a billion citizens has to offer, to remain as pushovers to what the US, Russia and China decide? No thanks.

A true political union is absolutely necessary if we want European values and standard of life to survive in the long run in this harsh world of international geopolitics.

It's too late now so it's relevant to freedom of movement, what else ? And yes quotas on qualifications & activity levels is the first thing coming in mind...

you cant even bring all interests together now as it is, i dont see how more of what isnt working will help us
right now the EU member states are drifting away from each other

the cultures, attitudes etc in europe are way too different to be able to make politics for the whole lot
