that budget could make sense....if the united states plan to enter another war in the very near future
other than it looks like a nightmare and i am the first guy who would cancel exceeding costs of left wing spending policy

you can make the argument that cutting the military budget would hurt the economy and destroy a huge number of jobs since the united states are so dependent on their arms industry
other than that, its a complete joke

or maybe all those mercenaries they have running around (illegally) and destabilising countries like syria has become more expensive

agreed the cuts are way too modest. entire departments should be slashed. its weak ass cuts like this that lead some real fiscal conservatives to leave the party.

I see, already thought so but was too lazy to look it up myself. Thanks for the charts! ;)

nonetheless, one has to consider the number of persons benefitting from the various budget items: I dont know the exact numbers, but there are far more than 70 million beneficiaries of medicare/medicaid or other forms of social security benefits. the overall numbers is probably over 100m.
the military, on the other hand, has an active personnel of 1.3m, and overall, there are maybe 5-10m people living off of the military budget if you include family members, contractors and jobs in the arms industry.

so you have 70-100m people benefitting from budget items which account for 58% of all spending, and 5-10m people living off ~18% of the budget.

as long as there is a clear distinction between programs that are valuable for society and those who are a waste of money its fine to make cuts
however then the defensive budget needs to be cut as well

if done properly i think its possible to have a balanced budget once again

the first step is to realise that the united states, as well as most other western states have a spending problem and NOT a problem with revenue while the left is desperate to extract more and more money from the people

Ever think that the military budget that the republicans endorse so much is the issue?
