Whitaker can cut some funding from Mueller, limit the scope of the investigation in borderline cases, and set deadlines. He can, and by the looks of it will apply temporal and financial thumbscrews.

If Mueller doesnt have enough material yet to take down Trump, chances are high he wont be able to acquire it anymore under Whitaker's watch.

I'm going to leave aside the discussion of whether cultists are cool with Trump blatantly obstructing justice, because I think I know the answer already.

---

I think it's easy for someone like Whitaker to pontificate on the Mueller investigation when he doesn't know the facts, and he's trying to get a job in the administration. Maybe he'll obstruct justice for Trump... but I think that's a losing battle in the end. Trump expects loyalty, but doesn't return it. Whitaker could, like Nixon's AG, end up in an indictment if he's blatantly obstructing justice.

I know it's quaint, but I have faith in American institutions. The Justice Department, the FBI, and a sizable portion of Congress will not allow Whitaker to end the Russia investigation prematurely. What happens if Director Wray, Rosenstein, and perhaps other career officials at DOJ resign in protest? What happens if Mueller comes out in a press conference and tells the American people that the acting AG is obstructing the investigation? It's wishful thinking to believe this investigation can just be swept under the rug.

And if Trump's innocent, it would be insane to bring all that heat upon himself. It would basically confirm to 50%+ of the country that he's hiding something significant.

Well, of course Whitaker cant blatantly obstruct Mueller. But whether you and other Trump haters like it or not, he IS Mueller's supervisor now, he DOES have significant and legitimate wiggling room over the way the investigation is conducted going from here.

I would really appreciate it if you and like-minded people would stop pretending like an AG using the leeway in decision-making which is granted to him by the laws of the land would automatically be illegitimate or "obstruction of justice" as soon as it affects your holy cow Mueller.
(... or the hopes of finding a deus ex machina way out of the Trump presidency that you guys are projecting onto Mueller.)

that'd be reasonable if the new ag was unbiased and not specifically nominated for this very reason. how stupid do you have to be to act like this is even debatable? there is no benefit of the doubt when there is no doubt...

Clinton would win in an electoral landslide. I know people like to have fun discussing fringe candidates but anyone who would attempt to argue otherwise is clearly clueless regarding national and state politics. Clinton would receive at least 347 EVs, and could theoretically push into the 370s-380s if she was fortunate enough to have 6-8 months of campaigning against Trump as the Republican standard-bearer.

The amusing thing is that Trump's electoral viability is little different than most of the other Republicans running. Bush, Walker, Rubio, and Kasich are all capable of forcing a tight election and even winning in certain environments but most of the other primary candidates would fare as poorly as Trump would.

Daily reminder.
