Let's remember this riots started over a guy assaulting a woman with a knife and trying to kidnap her kids.

If he showed up without a gun, or even with a gun and not being part of an extremist group whos stated purpose was violence, then self defense would have likely been strong enough to not even get charged

Here's how it played out might be TL;DR but this is it.

Rosenbaum got upset for the dumpster fire being put out, the crowd with him pressure kyle into back pedaling physically.
Rosenbaum confronts him in the parking lot after saying "shoot me shoot me" tough guy shit further pressing pure erratic bullshit.
Kyle walks away from the mob and Rosenbaum throws something at him, (at the time it was considered a moltov) I dont believe to be the case I think it's a bag with something in it.
2 9mm shots are fired into the air from the crowd, rosenbaum chases kyle through the parking lot then charges/lunges kyle this happens within 10 seconds. Kyle hearing gun shots and has a crazed man lunging at him fires 4 shots at him, i think all 4 hit? We'll see.


This creates panic with the rioters and some built of imaginary courage to chase after a man with a weapon who just shot someone. "This guy just shot someone stop him" nerds trying to be "heroes" .
Kyle calls the cops on himself
As he's walking to the barricade of cops, Anthony Huber knocks him to the ground and swings a skateboard at him actually hitting Kyle, Kyle fires a shot into Anthonys chest after being struck.
Gaige Grosskreutz pretends to try and help kyle get up, but fakes it and goes for a pistol in his waist band, kyle blows off the arm of Gaige, the arm going for the pistol.
