ya this will be HRC of 2016 for a lot of people
Despite some obvious parallels, I still think that there are very important differences:
- Biden has much better favorables than HRC, he's not the boogeyman for half the country.
- Biden in 2020 has run as the decidedly "non-woke" candidate, while HRC in 2016 specifically stressed her wokeness.
There are also important differences on the Trump-side of the equation:
- Trump in 2016 was a blank sheet in a lot of ways; many voters, particularly white working-class voters, were able to project their hopes and dreams onto his campaign. In 2020, everyone knows what a Trump presidency looks like. Many fears and hopes have not come true.
- Trump in 2016 had a chaotic trainwreck of a campaign, and only tepid support from the Republican estbablishment. In 2020, he has forced the party into submission, it is his party now. His campaign will be much better organized and well funded.
