Trump hasnt started a war with Iran.

not yet, and not for a lack of trying. he systematically escalated tensions with iran, which undeniably put us to the brink of a full blown war. next you're going to tell me that planet earth still exists, so trump's science denial couldn't possibly be detrimental... cultists gonna cult...

Yeah, it's pretty sad. I am in no way excited to vote for Biden, but you'd better believe that I will be doing it...

there were plenty of pundits who immediately after the targeted strikes on Suleimani said that Iran was not in the position to strike back meaningfully or even escalate the situation further. it was a calculated risk that Trump took to put the Iranian aggression in check, and the calculation turned out to be correct. describing this process as him "trying his best to start a war with Iran" is preposterous.

Despite some obvious parallels, I still think that there are very important differences:

- Biden has much better favorables than HRC, he's not the boogeyman for half the country.
- Biden in 2020 has run as the decidedly "non-woke" candidate, while HRC in 2016 specifically stressed her wokeness.

There are also important differences on the Trump-side of the equation:

- Trump in 2016 was a blank sheet in a lot of ways; many voters, particularly white working-class voters, were able to project their hopes and dreams onto his campaign. In 2020, everyone knows what a Trump presidency looks like. Many fears and hopes have not come true.
- Trump in 2016 had a chaotic trainwreck of a campaign, and only tepid support from the Republican estbablishment. In 2020, he has forced the party into submission, it is his party now. His campaign will be much better organized and well funded.
