But the part I don't get is that you for example have held to manslaughter at the lest through this entire topic. With no proof.

Verdicts aren't based only on proof. They are also based on testimony.

If the current story we have heard from Guyger is what gets presented in court as her testimony, what verdict do you think the jury will reach?

That was my point way back in this topic. Within a period of 2-3 days we got two entirely different stories of what happened.

1. She parked car, took elevator to the wrong floor, her key wouldn't work in the look, the GUY opened the door, she thought it was burglar in her apt., and fired gun.
2. She parked on "wrong level" in garage (which presumably led to her floor confusion), key wouldn't work in lock, door was "open" she opened the door and walked in, assumed the guy was in her apt. and shot.

This is pretty much the ONLY info we have so far, except the latest bit I posted 2-3 days ago, about her moving and the tox screens.

this is a frustrating issue

there are people that feel as you that will defend a cop no matter where it leads especially if race is involved

there are people that want murder charges on every case even when the facts don't lead there or it's obviously going to result in a not guilty so rather than take the win (improvement) on a lesser charge we get a walking shitty cop

and this case that appears to be a neighbor dispute of some sort turned deadly gets lumped in because of a white officer being involved and it's a black victim

if we are gonna make this shit work both extremes gotta focus on the goal we as people should all share. Less dead cops, less dead and abused people because of cops, more fair justice based on truth for both

That goal aside for the moment. I think in this sf at least we should all focus on remaining neutral, until we have solid facts with which to ground a debate.

/e As for the defend a cop no matter what thing.... not really. In general I feel that in most cases the civilian will be at fault. It has nothing to do with race.
The one thing that cops do have going for them is that in most cases they are not JUST some guy grabbed off the street and given a gun.

There is a training and elimination process that cops go through, that the average man on the street does not. So w/o having ANY facts, I will usually assume the cop didn't make the error.

Once we have the facts, things may change with my viewpoint.

I'm a biased person on all issues

I've had family members killed by authority

I have black and brown in my family and I worry about their interactions in their communities every single day with police

My best friend is a black female that has been mistreated by the police

I'm biased and I have a side

but that doesn't mean I cannot base my actions on truth which I always try to do

I don't like authority and that's my right but I do separate my personal feelings from individual cases. I think in this thread and most others like it I've succeeded

Let me ahve you walk in my PaRDian shoes for a moment.

Here's what I see on this sf. All but about 5-6 people, jump to conclusions at the drop of a hat. Even when it's pointed out to them, that no conclusions can be yet reached with the current evidence.
This happens so much on here, that newcomers to this sf would have to assume they were suddenly in China or some other repressive state.

/e Ofc, everyone jumps to their own conclusions on each issue. But the part I don't get is that you for example have held to manslaughter at the lest through this entire topic. With no proof.

only if the person had a specific mental handicap to not understand that people are judgy and impulsive, or if they have a reason to lie and act as if this isnt so.

I don't like authority when it comes to traffic tickets, getting busted for a joint, w/e. But what I really don't like is the thought of what this country would be like, w/o police.

I bring up the images from the movie Road Warrior for an example.

We ALL have truly baser instincts. Civilization is the continual attempt NOT to give into them... even the little ones.

even among BLM the idea that we dont need police is rare. its an incredibly vocal minority, even if they aren't shouted down by the left. the number of "if you get robbed you'll call the police" memes it spawned always makes me laugh.

See my edit above...

The problem with all this police brutality crap is that it will eventually start a movement. The result will be seriously useless police force, or none at all.
Once you start a ball rolling down a hill it's VERY hard to stop it.

/e I just came across some interesting statistics a few weeks ago.
You know how we always have those from across the pond claiming that police don't need guns, etc.

That SEEMS like a reasonable thought, until we look at conviction rates.

All we ever see on here is gun deaths by police. The US compared to various EU countries. What we NEVER see is the yearly conviction rates.

Well between the article in the OP and the one in post #107 we have some conflicting information.

The article in the OP said she got off the elevator at the wrong floor and was trying to open the wrong apt. door when the guy inside opened it.

The article in post #107 says she "parked" on the wrong level of a parking garage, and that the guy's door was unlocked and that the lights were off.

Two largely different stories.

Op article https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/dallas-officer-enters-apartment-she-mistakes-her-own-fatally-shoots-n907411

Can you point me to (1) which part of the article you get the bolded statement from and (2) who is the author of the story of the bolded statement?
