Social policies aren't really worth fighting for though. Only the knuckle-draggers vote on social policy alone. He's very liberal when it comes to public policy. He's pro-universal healthcare (just couldn't get it done). Pro-minimum wage raising (again, a failure). Very pro-gun control (failed here again). The list goes on, but if you look at his stance on issues, it'd be described as very liberal.
Tell that to the Republicans.... and you can't just ignore 1/3rd of their positions when making an evaluation.
He also surged troops and made plans to stay, only to get kicked out by the country we had them in.
He kept almost all of Bush's cabinet and advisors.
Expanded protection of pharmaceutical companies.
I'm not saying he's hard right or anything, but the most left you can reasonably describe him is towards the center even taking America's middle as the center.
