Kamala Scripted Event With Oprah:
Audience question: "We would like to know what is your plan to lower the cost of living?"
Kamala: "Yeah uh first of all thank you both for being here, and yours is a story I hear around the country as I travel. And um in terms of both rightly having the right to have aspirations and dreams, and ambitions for your family, and working hard, and finding that the American dream is for this generation and for so many recently is far more elusive than its been and we need to deal with that. And there are a number of ways, one is bringing down the cost of every day necessities including groceries. So that's why I'm taking on for example price gouging. Which is when- most companies and corporations are good- but for those bad ones, they take advantage of people especially during a pandemic or extreme weather and they end up jacking up prices and there needs to accountability and consequences for that. So I'm gonna be taking on price gouging. But its also about dealing what we need to do around home ownership. Right so as someone mentioned during this film, look I grew up a child of a mother who worked very hard, she raised me and my sister, she saved up, and by the time I was a teenager she was able to buy a home. And um, we grew up actually for a long time in an apartment on top of a child care center that was owned by the woman we called our second mother because she helped our mother raise us. And she was a small business owner, Ms Shelton. So I'll bring all this together to tell you the way I think about it is one, when people work hard and have a dream of buying a home we should give you the opportunity to be able to be able to do that, which is why part of my plan is for first time home owners, buyers, to have a $25,000 down payment assistance to buy your first home. Because people just need to be able to get their foot in the door, and then you'll do the hard work. Part of my plan is what we need to support small businesses. Because my second mother was a small business owner and I love our small businesses and our small business owners they are not only business leaders but also community leaders, they mentor, they hire locally, and we have so many entrepeneurs in our country who have great ideas incredible work ethic but not necessarily access to capital but not everybody like my opponent was handed $1 million on a silver... plate that he... filed bankruptcy six times on, so part of my plan is to give startup small businesses a $50,000 tax deduction to start up their small business right now its $5000 nobody can start up a business with $5000. -oprah interjection- that's a concept of a business, a teeny tiny business - and part of to speak to you guys is what we need to do around giving middle class families tax breaks and part of my plan is to extend the child tax credit to $6000. So that you can in the first year of your child's life, have the resources to be able to buy a crib and a car seat and clothes for your baby that's such an extraordinarily time in their development and you shouldn't have to worry about how you're going to take care of their basic needs. All of this and more is part of what I plan to build and I call it an opportunity economy. Its basically about creating opportunities knowing that so many people have the ambitions, have the aspirations, are working hard, but just need opportunity to reach their goals and their dreams."
Trump Town Hall with Huckabee Sanders:
Audience question: "How are you going to bring down the cost of food and groceries?"
Trump: "So, we have to start always with energy. I don't want to be boring about it, but there's no bigger subject, it covers everything, if you make donuts, if you make cars, whatever you make, energy is a big deal. And we're going to get that - its my ambition to get your energy bill within 12 months down 50%. If I can do that, we've done a hell of a job. Five oh, not fifteen, fifty. Interest rates are going to follow, and actually they're going to follow for another reason, the economy is now not good, and interest rates they'll do the rate cut and all the political stuff tomorrow we'll see- will they do a half a point, will they do a quarter of a point- but the reason is because the economy is not good, otherwise you wouldn't be able to do it. But we're going to get interest rates down. And we've got to work with our farmers, our farmers are being decimated right now, they're being absolutely, absolutely decimated. And you know one of the reasons is we allow other countries to send so much into ours, we're not going to allow so much, we're going to let our farmers go to work. And I don't know if you remember, I love the remembers, because you know I had many meetings as president, I have this georgous room with this beautiful table that seats about 35 people and I was with the farmers, usually everybody wants something, they all want subsidies. But I was with the farmers, and I think you might have actually been there sir, I said look fellas we're going to get you such a beautiful subsidy, meaning I'm going to do things, and one of the people raises their hand, says Sir, honestly we don't want a subsidy- this is the first time this ever happened to me. Everyone always wants - they want money, they want to build windmills, they want money for these windmills oy ye ye, but you know what, it was amazing he said almost tears in his eye, he said we are being decimated, we don't want a subsidy, we just want a fair, level playing field. And I said nobodies ever said that. And I've had many industries and many different people from different things, its probably the most dramatic I've ever seen, he didn't want anything, all he wanted was to be able to compete fairly. And the reason, the problem we have, is other countries they treat us very badly in that way also, they really are, and you know sometimes the worst countries are our so-called allies, I say so-called because in many ways they are not allies at all, they take advantage of us, they really take advantage. We're going to do with the farmers, we're going to do what we have to do with the farmers, we're going to put our farmers- you remember the expression, when I was negotiating with China, China said oh we're not going to deal with this, because they never had anybody negotiate, they did whatever they want, they took us for a bunch of suckers. I told the farmers, this is going to be a very good negotiations, you're going to suffer for six months but then they're going to fold. And that's exactly what happened, they folded, they agreed to buy $50 billion- you might have heard this story, I said how much- I went to the secretary of agriculture- how much did they buy? He said, fifteen, I thought he said fifty. So when they're ready to make a deal at fifteen, I said no I want fifty that's what they've been buying, I said, you said fifty, and he said, we said fifteen, I said no ask for fifty- and we got it. We got it. And they buy a lot of our product"
Maybe video clips could help us square this circle.
Also, based on Goomshill logic, he probably pulled the most incoherent Harris rant and the most coherent Trump rant. I don't care enough to read what he posts, but that's my guess.
