What happens to him now? Does resigning from congress absolve himself from these obligations or will his donors chase him down to get their investments back? I really don't know how this works
Obligations to political donors don't work like obligations to the mafia, lol. Megadonors know that only a handful of the candidates they back will ultimately reach positions of true power and yield a return on their investment. That's why they're putting their eggs in many different baskets.
Think of it like the NFL draft: most picks don't pan out, but you reap gigantic rewards from the few that do - and the more picks you get to make, the higher your chance to strike gold. Similar principle with donors and politicians.
