in that time (2008-2014) the Senate confirmed two Obama SC nominations, with multiple Republicans voting yea in both instances. not once did they try as snipa said to railroad any nominee with salacious, unverifiable partisan smut

Let's revise that. Republicans do play dirty, even moreso than Democrats, but they don't play desperate.

The worst two times i remember were Bush's ad hominem to push legislation after 9/11 and Newt Gingrich pushing for Clinton's impeachment. Both were terrible moves I'll admit

Probably 65% reasonable people against Trump, 25% Trump cultists, and 10% who deny being cultists but defend everything the guy does.
