He was correct.
The NRA has supported various gun control measures over the years, including NICS.
Thats why I don't like them very much.
The NRA dates back a long way, brother. Back to a time when proficiency and training in firearms usage wasn't really "a thing". People learned what they learned mostly from their parents. Few people knew federal or state law regarding firearms usage or possession.
The NRA started as an organization that did 3 primary things: 1. Released a magazine that provided information on the various states' gun laws. 2. Released a magazine about various information, from shooting tips to cleaning, to new kinds of firearms, think the average "gun enthusiast rag". 3. Set up training programs primarily for local and federal law enforcement to insure they became proficient in the tools they were handling. Many programs were open to the general public as well, but the public would have to pay a fee. According to the current stats, there are 13,000 NRA certified law enforcement instructors still in the US. The program is shrinking, primarily because most forces have the training now that the NRA could provide, and created their own training divisions. It's primarily limited to more rural and smaller areas now where they don't have access to resources.
Suffice it to say, the NRA (and its ~5,000,000 members) have been proud supporters of both law enforcement and the legal and responsible private ownership of firearms for a very VERY long time. And their support of NICS is one of the things I actually like about them.
