Admittedly, someone who is not even qualified for a loan as low as 1 month's rent might also not be qualified to make laws and decide on the future course of the country.

I have a feeling she's going to be more or less a sideshow in the House and isn't going to be taken seriously. They'll let her speak and feel important from time-to-time, and then the adults will be back to business as usual. She probably got elected purely because she's "one of us" by her constituents.

the saving grace being her fellow house members will meet all of her speeches with eyerolls and she'll be shunted to the back for a decade before she makes a notable committee.

The tragedy is that she'll be there for life.

Crowley, the incumbent she knocked off in the primary, was simply sleeping on the demographic changes in his district, and on the traction that her campaign got in the rapidly gentrifying parts of the district. He didnt take her seriously, didnt campaign with due diligence and got caught cold by her in an extremely low turnout race (I think ~10%). If we wound back time to March and repeated the primary campaign with Crowley being aware of the threat, he could wipe the floor with her, and he could do it with ease.

eh, maybe. i'd hope the residents of NYC smart up but they wont most likely.

better a whacko in the house where she can get drowned out than a senator.

of course, people who got wealthy by accepting corporate bribes are much more qualified to decide the future of a country - their motives are pure, and they certainly won't make any decisions based on the money they received from their donors...

Demographics. Her community will vote Dem always, and they'll vote for a Hispanic woman before, say, a white liberal Jew

She has the potential to pass good laws. I'm happy with her outrage over Amazon.

you don't have to take a corporate bribe to have 1 months rent plus a deposit.

in fact, i dont know anyone nearing 30 that doesn't have that in savings.

the reality is she doesnt actually have a hard time getting the money, she has a 6 figure income now, it was a publicity stunt to try and show how hard it is to make ends meet in america. of course it backfired by just making AOC look like a failure at life that somehow got a seat in congress.

my point, in case you really weren't able to identify it, is not that it's impossible to afford living near DC without legalised bribery - it's that not being able to do it, true or not, has NOTHING to do with her 'qualification' as a lawmaker and leader of the country.

while i'm not in panic mode about her like the right wing or you establishment guys, i still think there are legitimate points of criticism to be made about her.however, her personal wealth is certainly not one of those - and it's highly ironic considering how disqualifying the acceptance of corporate bribery (something that almost ALL establishment politicians that you guys shill for do) SHOULD be from the point of a reasonable citizen expecting their representatives to represent THEM.
