I really dont think that Trump would crack 30% in 2024 after having lost badly in 2020, say by 7% or more.
Biden only got the nomination because the Democratic party was desperately looking for a white man with the following properties:
- national name recognition
- appeal with African Americans
- a reputation as a (relative) moderate.
Biden was the only candidate who checked all three boxes.
I've said this time and time again: the party waited until the very last second whether some other alternative would emerge. The party only coalesced around Biden when it had become clear that he really was the only remaining alternative to Bernie.
tldr: Biden getting the Democratic nomination in 2020 at age 78 was an absolute aberration.
