U.S. Space Force estimated to cost $13 billion in first five years: memo

I dunno how pard feels about a U.S. space force, but I'd rather see it done now, than to find us playing catch-up to China or the like in 10 years.

/e I canna give ye any more cap'n. I've given ya all she's got.

Trump on Twitter (Sept. 17) - Tariffs, Steel Industry, Michigan

Out of all his tweets, I found these two very interesting...

Neil Degrass Tyson, as liberal as they come from what i can read, is in full support of it. its just plainly a good idea, scale of funding is a question to be asked, but its a good idea even if we just dip our toe for now.

I like the idea but don't really want it to be a military endeavor.

I'd love to give NASA a huge budget increase though.

TBH if we're taking it out from under the umbrella of military i'd prefer to privatize it fully. I'd rather hand the keys to the castle to Elon Musk than add in a layer of red tape with NASA. That's not been the best way to fund things historically in my opinion. It made sense to toss gas on a fire to get into space in the 50s-70s, but we're in a bit more refined era with more logical specific problems. I'd like to see a project to successfully cut down space trash, as an example. This is of course a bit subject to how China and other goliaths handle their respective programs, I dont want to see us fall way behind them if they go full force into state funding.

Yes, historically the government paves the way with the initial expensive investment and then private entities take over when cost gets low enough. Maybe it is that time.

I know it's just a pipe dream but I'd like to keep spece a weapon free zone

investing into space technology in the broadest sense might also spur a ton of technological innovation and scientific progress, similar to what the moon landing program did in the 60s.

Hmm yep, part of space missions have been initiated by the air force whom have a space division. So it's basically already there, putting it under a new umbrella doesn't seem like the bad plan on it own. But then it comes out of Trumps mouth, using a name corny enough to put it in the next Team America movies, a force in space blowing things up.

The name doesn't seem to suggest the ppl creating it, know a lot about space, which makes me doubt the plan again :D

most technological breakthroughs in the last 80 or so years can be traced back to programs of the military.

Your obsession is fascinating. I couldn't even imagine spending so much time thinking about something I hate. How do you make it through the day with Drumpf kicking around in your head every other minute?
