I know, I just found the casualness of assuming that illegal immigrants are casting votes for the Dems really hilarious.
On a more serious note though, illegal immigration coupled with birthright citizenship does indeed alter the make up of the electorate with a delay of one generation: the U.S. born children of the illiegal immigrants will have citizenship, and once they turn 18, they will start casting votes for the party that is more favorable and welcoming towards illegal immigration. "Vote republican, we're gonna deport your parents" is just not a workable campaign message.
So even if no non-citizens are casting their ballot, illegal immigration does still affect elections - just with a time delay of about 19-35 years.
