I don't see why you would think anything is a bridge too far for Trump. Every time somebody has claimed that Trump made a point to smash through it at full force.

It would be far more blatantly undemocratic than anything else he ever did.

What makes you think it only comes down to what Trump wants?
Step back for a moment, take a deep breath, and think about the scenario you're talking about:

- Trump has lost the popular vote big, 5++ percent. He's proven to be a SAD loser who drags down his own party.
- Decisive states were officially certified for Biden.
- Republican state officials only need to sit back and do nothing to get rid of the SAD loser who is almost single-handedly responsible for horrible results for Republicans across the board.
- They would have to take an unprecedented shit on democracy itself, open themselves up to potential lawsuits and prosecution, expect to be heckled by commoners everywhere they go for the next couple of years, and expect the most epic electoral backlash in history if they go through with this plan, meaning that their own career and the fortunes of their party are destroyed unless they go even further and abolish democracy altogether - and all of that only to keep the proven loser in office that most of them secretly hate and despise.

Why the FUCK should they do that? It makes no sense whatsoever. Certain segments of the GOP base might be cultists - but almost no GOP officials are. They aren't cultists, they're just spineless opportunists.

I'm not sure if Trump is going to go away as a political force unless the GOP can find a replacement FAST. Why won't Trump run again in 2024 when conditions are more favorable towards him? If the economy is mediocre under Dems, Trump can just say, "look at my record, I'll fix the economy again."

That's a possibility, but only if he loses this election by a narrow margin.

Also... maybe I'm wrong, but it seems to me that there is quite a bit of "Trump fatigue" among the broader electorate. I think there are ~15% of the electorate who are not hardcore trumpists, but will tentatively cast their vote for him based on negative partisanship more than on enthusiasm for a second Trump term.

And keep in mind that he'd by 78 by the time the 2024 campaign comes around. Would he even want to run again?
Aaaaand there will probably be several processes waiting for him in SDNY once his term and thus his immunity end. Chances imho are decent that stuff comes out which disqualifies him.

He'll probably continue to rail on twitter, shit all over the Biden administration 24/7, perhaps continue his rallies for some time - but not much else.

Pretty sure the House, Senate, SCOTUS, and nearly everyone else, will push back against becoming a dictatorship.

Why? Christian extremists want a dictatorship, and they control the senate and Supreme Court.
