It's just a strange reaction... apparently confederate soldiers and generals were evil because they fought to preserve slavery, whereas all those who supported slavery for thousands of years before that(including many of the men who founded our country) were just products of their time.

Now that's how to speak to the entire population.. I'm already missing his speeches.
