but this whole "poor migrants should improve their own country" is just "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" talk with a new hat. how does someone who makes 20 cents a day, saves up for a decade to get the coyote's fee, and has to leave children and family behind to get to america to make more money to send home to their family they left, "improve their country"? these are poor uneducated manual laborers in a poor area economically. obviously there are some ways they can improve some things, but to present it as an alternative to individuals migrating? that's dumb as hell. and to be honest sneaking into the US and sending back money with Western Union is likely a better strategy financially than whatever you're about to respond with.

oh, i am well aware that sneaking into the US is the much more sensible strategy for the individual mexican. but this is an argument for why the mexican worker would want to illegally immigrate into the united states - not an argument for why the american society should allow this to happen.

poverty migration is a net drain on society. the immigration of highly qualified workers is what we're really beneftitting from, is the type of immigration that typically is "culturally enriching".
