As far as I'm aware slaves were not considered Americans at the time.

And lets get something clear, I'm not saying I support slavery or think it is morally correct.

But back to the original topic..

Moving the Indians, while morally wrong, gained us massive amounts of land and resources, and was a net benefit for America

...a benefit for white America. Clearly it was not a benefit for the rest of the inhabitants, whose descendants are now Americans. Those descendants are STILL suffering for it, unless their particular tribe managed to open a casino. I'm sorry, I can't possibly give Andy any credit for the results of Indian removal.

Well, he negotiated with the, and he pretty much rose an army and killed everybody else. So there is that. He didn't do Wounded Knee...the Trail of Tears was definitely hard though.

Manifest Destiny is a hell of a concept. Do you not believe in a coast to coast America though? There is right and wrong, and there is nation building.

Medicare birthday party with former Governor and Senate candidate Ted Strickland today. That is me in the back to the left. It was an AFSCME thing. It was pretty fun. He really impressed me with his knowledge, grasp of the issues and what is at stake, and his reasonableness. I've met a lot of politicians and many of them were slimy. Strickland is legit.

Usually don't self-disclose pics or w/e but this was pretty cool.

Oh, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEDICARE!

there is good and evil, and then there's opportunities for evil.
