It's a lot like people saying Trump is actually playing 43D chess when he does something stupid. You kind of know he's just a lucky idiot, but you still hold out that tiniest bit of hope that there is something greater at work.

I'd say he really believes most of what he says and is sincere most of the time

there are times where one does wonder but overall if there is trolling I'd say it doesn't go any farther than report trolling where he posts the over the top pics and takes enjoyment out of reporting if he triggers someone into violating the flame rule
