if you interested more on the topic cs lewis wrote a great big called the problem of pain.

I'd like to hear a comforting message about the suffering of people.
something that is in the scriptures.
that we believe in the righteousness of God.

also like you to talk about the untimely death of children.
0 to 7 years of age.
what will be the fate of these souls?

i can help here with one of Jesus' stories:

Luke 16:19
There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:

Luke 16:20
And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,

Luke 16:21
And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.

Luke 16:22
And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;

Luke 16:23
And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

Luke 16:24
And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

Luke 16:25
But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

Luke 16:26
And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.

Luke 16:27
Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:

Luke 16:28
For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.

Luke 16:29
Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.

Luke 16:30
And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.

Luke 16:31
And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

are you a christian because you like the idea of an invisible man watching over you when you masturbate ferociously to porn?

Lol'ed at this. Actually I was addicted to porn for close to 8 years and I constantly had to put that thought out of mine. Like many others, I have found a huge problem with Porn and masterbation not only biblically, but how i treat girls relationally. It puts an unneeded expectation into relationships. It took almost 3 years of constant acountabiliy and a lot of grace from God, but I haven't looked at porn or masterbated in over 4months. So to answer your question...yes I like the invisible man watching over me,but not because of the creepy reasons you are thinking of.

Thanks for posting this, it's a good story. Reading through the end of Isaiah you also find the peace of God for Israel that is to come.

I would however like to speak out the assumed righteousness that we place upon the poor. Many of us believe that poor people should be lifted onto the level of Saints. I do think God's heart burns to help the poor and the oppressed, but don't forget that we are all deserving of justice. Wrote a lengthy talk on this earlier in the thread.

As far as children go, I stand by the fact that children who haven't reached the age of understanding do not get condemned. I believe this because Jesus said that unless we believe like little children or become like children we won't be saved.

I was disappointed that my existentialism class didn't go too much into Christian and Jewish existentialism like Tillich and Buber.

check out Nikolai Berdyaev and Lev Shestov if you've not done it already, they always get overshadowed by Dostoyevsky when it comes to the Russians!

seen a documentary how Lenin came to power. He didn't believe in the bullshit he was selling, he just wanted power. He was heavily funded by germans (it was world war 1 and Germany was at war with Russia). So when he came to power, every country in the soviet land had to meet a 'quota' of people sent to prison, from wealthy to inteligent. But if you were poor, u were given a chance to work for your glorious leaders well being -- aka country's well being.

it has nothing to do with Jesus of course, as He said 'Give to the Caesar what is Caesar's'. Good Caesar's, bad Caesar's. But God and his son Jesus are always good.

When your mother was having sex with your father, and they made you, that same invisible man was watching. Sometimes the invisible man still has a laugh over a beer about how corny it was. He drinks your own beer, then pisses in the bottle to fill it again. Thats why your beer tastes like piss sometimes.
