He can ask the question if he wants to. Nothing wrong with that. As far as smoking goes, it doesn't directly address smoking, because people didn't smoke back then. But if you look at Biblical context, moderation is key. If you can moderately smoke, then go ahead, i would say. The problem is that it's so addicting.
