The ONLY reason the left/Dems are so insistent on stalling this appointment, is because it is to their advantage to have a 4-4 SC.

Whoever Trump appoints will be right leaning, obviously. There is a myriad of idiotic lawsuits brought by the left right now, that the SC will obviously toss out.
The longer the left can stall the appointment, the more they can harass Trump, which is their only goal at this time.
