so 'misleading the fbi about the date you talked to a free speech organization' is worse than rape?
9 years would be so preposterously draconian, whoever dreamed up that number should feel embarrassed.
a decade in prison for telling the feds the wrong date- while those same feds completely lied and faked the carter page warrants using intel they knew was bogus, clearly violating the law? And they get 'disciplinary action'?
no matter how much people hate Trump and his associates, that's not a precedent you want set.

DoJ now saying that the prosecutors switched the sentencing recommendation, lying to the DoJ when they briefed them
For a case that reeks of politics to begin with, its pretty hard not to see some fuckery afoot when the prosecutors issue an utterly absurd sentencing recommendation and then instantly resign in protest when the president tweets and the doj steps in to intervene. Something is clearly going very, very wrong. If their goal was just to create a stir for political reasons to pile on top of the failed impeachment, it would at least explain it. But I don't think there's a sane prosecutor out there that thought 9 years as even remotely suitable here.
When the flynn case and papadopolous and other cases went up and mueller's team was still in full gear, we got headlines about how they only got 'a few weeks in jail' or 'probation' or whatever, I don't remember each one. And there would be liberals complaining and saying the fix was in, but there were sane pundits pointing out that nobody should have expected more, because even taking the accusations at full value it was still minor process crimes for first time offenders in dubious cases. But then holy shit, trying to crank it to 9 years vs stone? What are they playing at. The only possible reason to go so draconian is to force the hand of the president or doj to intervene, knowing they can't let such a sentence go ahead
/e and it sounds like the guy not only resigned from the case, but his office in DC entirely.
I'm pretty sure this is a case of a soapbox exit and showboating.
goon-shill scrambling to spin yet another egregious overreach by trump and his doj toadies, intervening on behalf of yet another one of his crooks (like flynn, manafort, and so many other 'coffee boys') facilitating the russian interference with the 2016 elections. trump is single-handedly turning america into a banana republic. absolutely embarrassing.
competent, principled, and moral people, apolitical career public servants, judges, diplomats, and other staff have been leaving their positions in droves under this corrupt oligarchy. yet the trump cult somehow manages to delude itself into believing it's those people who are wrong / out to get them / motivated by corruption. guess that's the only way (apart from outright making stuff up, like claiming the only thing roger stone did, was accidentally getting a date wrong - preposterous) you could justify such shameless criminal behaviour by their cult leader...
