Various forms of welfare are only frowned upon when it's the mythical welfare queen (aka non white people) that benefit

farmer and rural welfare and subsidies don't count as government handouts because it's mostly poor white people trying to get by which of course is so much different than those in more populated areas doing the exact same thing

Trump is fighting a trade war in order to end or change abusive trade practices by other countries which are hurting the american people. This is not an easy fight, and there will be unavoidable collateral damage.
It's only fair if the government is helping out those who had to take the collateral damage as long as the end result is there, which is better trade deals and business relationships.
