It really speaks to how we have stopped demonizing different behavior and body types, and how much better as a society we have gotten. Yeah, obesity isn't a good thing but we aren't going to call obese people freaks anymore.

I have these old books from different states full of actual headlines from local papers from the 1800s and early 1900s

outside of the typical bear with mange being bigfoot and sturgeon being river monsters there are countless entries of "monstrosities" being born which were just beautiful children that happened to have physical deformities and "possessed" children and adults that were just suffering from mental illness or the effects of being abused

What a great time to be living in where we better understand these things now and rather than dispose of or ostracize the people we are finding ways for more people to find more community and more resources to live their lives in happier and more positive ways than before
