She doesn't have an interesting/fun public personality so she doesn't appeal to the entertainment side and she isn't very knowledgeable on politics so she doesn't appeal to the serious side
She mostly isn't criticized other than when she acts like a weirdo with the jacket or gets caught up in plagiarism (even then they went light) multiple times and a lot of media still does talk about her fashion in a positive way
Overall considering how polarizing her husband is the media has treated alright especially compared to how the right treated Michelle, someone with both a good personality for the public and knowledgeable on issues.

exucse me, but in which world is Michelle knowledgeable? during the 2016 campaign, I listened to two speeches of hers, and both were intellectually flat, light on policy and basically consisted of nothing but playing the women's card on hillary's behalf and playing the racism card against trump for 40+ minutes. it was painful to listen to, and made me realize how overhyped michelle was/is by the media.
michelle is ahead of the bush wives or nancy reagan, but she's still lightyears behind hillary. in the end, hillary was the only first lady who's really smart and really knowledgeable on politics (just happens to be a horrible person with horrible policies.)
