There's a large difference between "calling something a hoax" and "minimizing it", where the former is a specific description and outright denial, while the latter is your subjective interpretation of whether his response has been adequate, whether his descriptions erred on the side of too strong or too light. Which based on his statements and current death toll, is something the jury is still out on. We're still in the "end is nigh" phase, rather than the "wailing and gnashing of teeth" phase.

dont forgot that the leading (D) candidates for President criticized his restriction of travel from China, Iran, and Europe early on. The candidate who will probably win (Biden) was still stammering less than two weeks ago about how such measures were ‘xenophobic’

Through a coworker who's family member works for a local hospital as a nurse. All the nurses and doctors are under an NDA about a certain subject apparently.

Said subject is that they have been forced to test everyone for the flu instead of corona virus, and tell them the covid test came back negative, unless they're on deaths door, to keep their numbers of actively infected people low. Why they are doing this I don't know, and I don't know how many other hospitals are doing the same thing. My only guess can be they were told to by someone higher up than the hospital itself in an attempt to keep public panic lower. Unfortunately this means those people think they aren't carrying this virus and most likely will go infect more people by accident. I'm not sure how NDAs work exactly, in regards to being forced to break the law, but it all seems highly illegal.
