Tribalism was common place during the last Satya Yuga 14,000 years ago when's mans consciousness was at a higher state. Man started farming after his consciousness shrank during the decending Treta Yuga and he learned the fear of death and separation.

We're currently in an ascending Dwapara Yuga where materialism reigns and men are mostly honorless. The next Satya Yuga won't be for like another 6,000 years.
