Moral is overrated anyway.
To a certain extent, I agree. Sometimes tough decisions have to be made. Trump could be seen as an ugly ends to a mean in that sense. As you said a few days ago, a productive President with terrible optics.
But to the extent Trump takes it, no. Not only did he endorse a man who sexually assaulted a 14 year old, he also drew a false equivalency between white nationalists and people protesting white nationalists, compared our country to a ruthless autocracy, is slowly eroding our democratic institutions, exacerbated partisanship, and is lowering the level of national discourse to embarrassing levels.
Instead of talking about how to solve American health care, we are fighting about the implications of our President paying off a pornstar.
As Colin Powell said, Trump is a national disgrace. I know I probably won't convince you of that, but just consider for a moment that this guy launched his 2012 political campaign on the basis that Obama was not a US citizen. I think that should speak for itself.
Don't get me wrong, I think the Tweets and the rallies are fun to watch. He's engaging, funny, and captivating. But the man is a demagogue, plain and simple. He appeals to the worst parts of our humanity.
I write this to you only because I know you are a fair and reasonable individual, and I respect you. Your support of Trump will never change that. But believe me, there are far better ways to help this great nation succeed than to support Donald Trump, even if you like some his policies.
