Many refugees do actually have the luxury of choice and precisely for the reasons you mentioned choose to go the lands that will give them cushy aid and not stick around in the first place they are safe. Not all those countries around there are dumps that wouldn't be able to help. The gulf Arabs have higher living standards than us living in the west. You're telling me UAE, Qatar, SA, Bahrain, can't lift a finger and take in some people? Many of them also played a role in some of these wars. Not trying to go into too much detail but Syria for example, was mainly a war between the ruling Shiites, which remained in power and rebel Sunni groups backed armed and funded by Wahhabist SA and the other gulf rich nations, including the Turks (obviously we also also supported many of these rebels). So they do bare some of the brunt.
To me it's highly hypocritical for many of these surrounding countries to be the first to sound the alarm and be critical of Israeli actions yet do so very little to support fellow Muslim refugees or even make serious attempts to diffuse the situation by at the very least acknowledging Israel's right to exist.
Edit: But I do agree with you on the fact that our interference in the region has been a net negative and we're probably at least somewhat responsible for the shit show.
They don't have choice if countries won't accept them though, I dont really see how that works? They choose between who will accept them and within those choices they generally select the ones which will benefit them and their families the most. Doubt Poland was on the list for example.
Maybe the quality of life is better in some of those countries because they aren't funding endless foreign wars and accepting the inevitable hordes of refugees that result from them. Anyone could lift a finger and help these people, doesn't meant it is a good choice or that it wouldn't take resources away from other projects/interests. Especially considering the west willingly takes these people on masse, why would they volunteer? If say 200k civilians showed up starving on their border the situation would be different. I'm sure many countries in the area have been involved in many of the conflicts but IMO the force that causes the most amount of refugees is the US and their proxies.
Why is it hypocritical if the potential refugees are a direct result of ongoing actions being taken by Israel? I know Turkey and Egypt are at least trying to send aid (stuck at border last I saw, tons of trucks loaded up though) not sure about others, haven't checked.
What does acknowledging their right to exist mean, recognizing them as a country? I'm pretty sure that whole issues hinges around the historical and ongoing displacement of Palestinians so I don't know why they would recognize Israel in this situation, but maybe I misunderstood.
