Nah, I'm not going to play that game. You made a thread before where you wanted to start fresh and you failed miserably roughly a week later. You reap what you sow...live with it.

Bullshit. I tried my damnedest and all that happened was the same old shit. Constant fucking rudeness and insults from your camp. I haven't sown shit - all I've done is stand up to the rudeness, the bullying and the outright persecution of people you disagree with.

Also that thread was me saying we should all stop the condescension and belittlement and actually discuss the ideas presented in this forum - a week later I was the only person doing that.

dawkins published work aside, he's a smug asshat that wants people to stop believing what he doesn't believe. regarding his work, i've never read the selfish gene but most well-reasoned criticism of it i've read says that he uses faulty methodology to come to conclusions that align with what he already believes. eg "proving" something to be correct when it may not really be correct. also like genetic reductionism can prove anything anyway

and just all of tysons nonsense political sentiments. guy should stick to being sagan 2.0 and try not to influence how people vote (see: ethics)

You seem to be doing the same as those you attack, blindly aligning yourself even though you're too ignorant to form your own opinion.

The Selfish Gene is widely considered one of the greatest masterpieces of evolutionary biology ever written

there will never be a universal moral standard and that's a good thing.

attacking religion using moral arguments is shooting yourself in the foot

Speak for yourself, whether or not there is some "objective morality" (I think there is but that isn't relevant at the moment) most people still agree on a lot of it, and if a doctrine advocates morally reprehensible behavior that's enough for most people to dismiss it.

i think you might have skipped ahead in our discussion. we weren't talking about preaching to choirs.

You yourself admitted you haven't read The Selfish Gene yet you've formed an opinion on it. What, cause you don't like the author?

my preconception is that it's a work of biological and genetic reductionism, which isn't useful. plus if i read it i'd be hearing his smug voice in my head the whole time.

Yeah, your reputation doesn't disappear after a week. Trust is hard to build and easy to destroy

Whatever... I couldn't care less anymore.

Go on and act like I'm the only person who's rude on the whole forum and shun away. I'm not even the rudest. I'm pretty pleasant compared to quite a few regulars tbh. But you know ... that bandwagon is awfully tempting... At least there's still some members on here capable of having a conversation without engaging in all this schoolyard bullshit.

Actually read a bunch of reviews after you said you'd read that it was formed on bad premises and I didn't get that impression at all. What I got was that it was a good pop-science book that did an excellent job of communicating some rather complicated concepts to the layman.

I reckon it's worth a read at least.

Well... considering it's a book on evolutionary biology and not psychology...
