Part of the issue is that some smokers are quite rude, which bothers me because I smoke and hate the holier-than-thou I get from other people.
I see other smokers throw their butts on the ground (instead of in an ash tray or drain or garbage), smoke in large crowds on the sidewalk, etc.
Regardless of whether or not its harmful, SHS is just as irritating as sitting behind a dirty car or walking past a campfire. The smoke isn't pleasant to other people.
What really irritates me, however, is when non-smokers limit the places you can smoke beyond someplace reasonable.
It seems like everyday they are banning smoking in more "public" areas. I see the reasoning behind not being able to smoke within 25 feet of a door, or in a crowded place (such as a public square or restaurant), but banning smoking in a well-ventilated parking garage? Policymakers get away with it due to smokers not following basic rules.
I won't be surprised if businesses and cities ban smoking in public areas altogether. Smoking will then be limited to homeowners.
