Tarrifs won't lower grocery prices numbnuts.

They will raise the price of imported foods. Like fruits, vegetables and fish.

They won't "force domestic food producers to sell more in America drIving down prices."

Prices are set by costs, like fuel, fertilizer (imported) labour, packaging. Food producers don't work on 50% margins where they can just lower prices. They will stop producing if there is no export demand. Losing jobs.

During Trumps last trade war they spent 28 billion in farm bailouts due to drop in export demand.

This also works on the huge assumption that investors will throw money into u.s. treasuries.

Trade wars will push countries to sell u.s. bonds like China and Japan already are.

Tariffs raise the cost of goods, which slows economic growth. Meaning higher inflation and potentially higher interest rates.

Imagine how fucking stupid you'd have to be to believe trump is a genius.

It's all relative, I guess.

There is still a lot of fear going around and that's understandable.

The wide spread application of these tariffs all at onces can be seen two ways.
1. foolish, now everyone hates the usa for giving them a taste of their own tariffs.
2. smart, it doesn't play favorites and as more countries come to the table it encourages others to follow.

In reality it's probably somewhere in the middle.
Countries were screwing the USA over with their tariffs.
Had USA kept heading in the same direction, there was no incentive for countries to come to the table.

But be careful! online you may be interacting with a country or person who hates the USA and will use this as an opportunity to spread fear and hate.

Taking a step back for just a second, on that note.

Who do you think empowered some of these foreign countries to behave this way?

the USA incentivized them to do trade deals like this.
many of the Asian countries gained great prosperity via jobs and products consumed by the usa.

The american people were painted this lovely picture about how it would make living more affordable in the usa.

We have had Corporate Socialism in the United States gutting the country for a long time. Both parties have carried the torch in regards to slanted trade deals to benefit those they are beholden to, Corporate donors. Hell, corporations were granted the same level of rights enshrined in the bill of rights simply through a court case. This matters when it comes to money in politics.

So it's fair to say the US people have been screwed but we may be going after the people who did not do the screwing.

1. Let's stay true to the facts, most countries did not have tariffs against the US in the form Trump claimed, that is just a lie. The New US tariffs are solely based on trade deficit, not on the tariffs (if there even were any by that country) You can verifiy this easily
2. Best case for you is there are some small concessions, tariffs are lifted and the stock market stops cratering. Well actual best case is you impeach Trump, claim it is all his fault and Vance makes politics boring again - but I am not holding my breath for that to happen.

If you take my full quote instead of cutting it off mid sentence: yes, 100k fgs or 100$ paypal, whatever you prefer. You can google the formula that was used to calculate trumps tariffs, it does not include tariffs from other countries. You could see it as paying for math lessons, might be a good idea

Bessent gave no indication that President Donald Trump was willing to back down on the sweeping new tariffs he introduced last week. He said more than 50 countries had called the administration seeking negotiations, but any talks are going to take time.

Buckle up boys, its gona be a wild week.
