What qualifications are even needed for: Director of Communications for the Office of Public Liaison

I don't think there are any set qualifications: I assume anyone that can pass a West Wing security clearance can get the role as long as the President is okay with it.

Presumably, someone with a career in communications and/or public relations could be a candidate. Omarosa has a Master's degree in communications and brielfly worked for Al Gore's office.

But by Trump's own admission, she is "nasty", "not smart", and a "lowlife." He said he hired her because she "begged me for a job, tears in her eyes."

Even without the benefit of hindsight, this isn't looking like it was ever a qualified hire. But that's my opinion. You're certainly entitled to defend the hire of Omarosa all of you want. Excellence and EndlessSky don't see much of a problem with it, either, so you're not alone on this. Maybe I'm not getting the full story or seeing her full resume. Perhaps you could prove me wrong about how she was a qualified candidate at the time of the hiring.

uh this isn't exactly a mystery
she's a black woman who said nice things about Trump and defended him publicly
he would have just as easily hired diamond & silk if he had any experience with them

she was hired because of the color of her skin and the fact she has a vagina adding a few extra points. Her sole job was to insulate Trump from accusations of racism and add more diversity purely for the cynical political advantage.
they were happy to give her a cushy job on the payroll with neither responsibilities nor needing qualifications because it meant attacking the democrat's weak point and helping win elections.

odds are they simply did not regard her as qualified or trustworthy enough to assign any real responsibility, hence her limited role and apparently optics-only uses. Its not like she was a genuinely capable character like Sarah Huckabee Sanders out to crack some skulls on behalf of the Trump administration. And once John Kelly got brought in to tamp down on the nonsense, he sniffed out that she was well past 'unreliable ditz' and into 'schizo bitch' territory, and axed her. Maybe Kelly would have been fine with keeping her around even if he knew she was useless, if she wasn't such a risk.

Omarosa getting hired was simply a PR miscalculation. They accurately assessed the benefits of bringing on a loyal black lady. They inaccurately assessed her loyalty, and therein lay the rub

Reminds me a bit of the hiring of Scaramucci - give an eloquent defense of Trump on TV, get hired despite glaring incompetence and being a walking PR-disaster.

For a position like Omarosa he probably thought her race would help his image and didn't think she was dumb enough to go full crazy scorned ex on him. He took a chance and it kinda blew up

You're exactly right, but labeling the hire as simply a "miscalculation" is quite the understatement. Trump hired a reality TV star who specializes in creating drama to the West Wing. Are you surprised by the result?

sometimes it pays to have a few goats around to scape. I think that Trump has done this on purpose, so that he can get cheap optics wins and distractions when he needs. Hope Hicks didnt bring much of anything, but her expulsion was a nice distraction.
