Same way they should have handled Reza Aslan eating human brains on camera to make a hinduphobic documentary: Not do it in the first place. They're obviously engaged in a culture of unethical yellow journalism with or without its patron saint coming after them in kind. Just shooting wildly and 'taking responsibility' for only the errant bullets is no responsibility at all.
I disagree. You can argue that CNN(and other media outlets) devote too much time to the Russia stories, but to be fair every week there's some new aspect of it, and the president won't stop talking about it.

You wont see it as a big deal because you enjoy CNN, I will find it a bigger deal because I support Trump and genuinely believe CNN is more of a business and just wants views more than real news. They have a target audience and just feed them what they want to hear. The people who aren't as bias will see CNN in a more negative light especially when two quasi-similar events happen at the same time. Two events at once is much stronger than the sum of the individual events.
CNN is more of a business... compared to what? Fox News maintains great ratings because they present a highly biased form of the news which appeals to a lot of people. CNN does a lot of things to boost ratings, like hyping up the Comey testimony with a countdown clock, but from a journalistic perspective they do a pretty good job. I do think they and other media outlets focus on the Russia stories too much, but Trump's actions and tweets just pour gas on the fire. Had Trump not fired Comey there probably wouldn't be a special counsel.
