Posting an image showing rising cases and death tolls followed by one of the Dow Jones is really not a good look.

At this point, I think we have to seriously consider calling this the American virus.

Well, that was before they completely changed strategy. Now we're going to get the worst outcome possible: BOTH a huge recession and a bunch of deaths.

do you honestly believe that continuing to ignore the virus would have been better?!
no, the simple truth is that there was no realistic scenario where your favoured approach (not giving a shit about it, not cancelling mass events, and not changing 'normal' life) would have worked.

guess what, we have a global economy. yours was always going to be impacted massively, just like every single other one.
guess what, spain did not have the capacities for large scale testing, tracing, and strict isolation of infected people and risk groups.
guess what, the virus can also be dangerous for younger people, in particular those with pre-existing conditions.
guess what, all the countries that handled this crisis the best so far (like south korea and taiwan) have one thing in common: they DID give many fucks very early.

- COVID-19 patients average time on ventilator: 11 - 21 days (vs. 3 - 4 days for non-COVID-19 patients). "We have patients that have been 20 days 30 days on a ventilator. The longer you are on a ventilator, the more likely you are not going get off a ventilator"

Yeah this is horrible: imagine finishing your life with fucking air tank and not even being able to walk with that, it's FUCKING SICK.

Now take a nice breath.

You don't need to post that, it's no longer valid after 10 minutes.

Well, one thing to keep in mind is that the U.S. have more than 5 times the population of Italy, and more than 7 times that of Spain.

In general, the infection numbers seem to be more strongly influenced by the amount of testing than by the actual level of infection spread.

absolutely, a valid point ofc. just like the fact that america had more time to prepare, a significantly lower median age, and lower population density...

Sure. I just wanted to point out that the US total number overtaking Italy does not mean that the situation in the US is already worse, or even comparable yet, to the Italian one.
