Trump could have followed the H. W. Bush model. Launch an FBI investigation, likely find nothing, and now you have a cleaner slate to work with instead of just one testimony vs another.

If this performance doesn't save his nomination- barring any late fuck-ups from here to the end- than its like the groundhog seeing its own shadow, we're in for another 6 years of MeToo It would say that even the most convincing testimony against the flimsiest, the mountains of character witnesses and denials from supposed witnesses against uncorroborated testimony from opportunists and hoaxers- would not be enough to save a man. And if that's the result of all this, it will empower the worst elements

You can't compare the time it took the FBI for the Anita Hill thing to this incident. The Dems WANT to drag out this investigation, which is why it can't go to the FBI. Who as someone said wouldn't find anything anyhow.
