and how exactly is this a malicious attempt at suppressing certain votes? every wisconsinite was subject to the same voter ID laws, every wisconsinite had months to get his voter ID/registration fixed ahead of the election.
why is it the GOP's fault if it's mostly democratic-leaning constituencies who fail to do this?

imho, it's the opposite way round: the fact that it's mostly democratic voters who fail to comply with those laws because they are too lazy or disinterested in politics, is really telling about where the parties stand today.

If we change the law to require a 100$ fee to vote you could use the same argument to say it doesn't discrmininate, even though it clearly does against the poorest voters.

sigh, you're missing the point. There is literally no such thing as voter fraud/voter impersonation, so all these laws do is make it harder for the less privileged to vote... you do realize that probably a good majority that were turned away to vote probably had no idea about these new voter ID laws? not because they're uninterested in participating in our democracy, but because they don't have the means to find out about this stuff...

Yet no evidence of fraud turned up when the county sheriff and district attorney, both Republicans, launched a monthlong investigation, nor did Republicans present any cases of voter impersonation when the law was challenged in court. (The law, initially blocked for violating the Voting Rights Act, was reinstated in 2014 by a panel of conservative judges.)

Voter fraud is a very small problem in Wisconsin, and nationally. According to one major study, from 2000 to 2014, there were only 31 cases of voter impersonation out of more than 1 billion votes cast. “Studies show that the kind of fraud that these laws are supposedly enacted to prevent happens less frequently than Americans being struck by lightning,” says Ho.

Requiring Voter ID is NOT voter suppression.
Calling it that... even 1000 times, doesn't make it true.

Proponents of voter ID laws cite the registration of dead and out-of-state voters as a vulnerability in the electoral system. A 2012 report by the Pew Center showed that more than 1.8 million deceased people remain registered to vote nationwide. The same report found 3 million voters registered in multiple states, presumably due to changes of residency.

getting the photo ID or whatever is required in wisconsin is a one-time investment. a one-time investment that is justified by the reasonable intention of keeping the election clean and safe.

your argument is like saying "having a polling station every [X] miles is discriminatory against old, immobile voters who cant walk [X] miles; and it's discrimination against the poorest voters who cant afford the trip there, since it would cost [Y] dollars for the bus ticket or car fuel".

this would imply you think Voter fraud is a real problem, which it isn't, so your argument is invalid...
