Find a majoritarian position and you'll find DeSantis there championing it. People don't like lockdowns, ergo, DeSantis doesn't like lockdowns. Parents don't want strange men/women showing their 5-year olds sexually explicit material, and DeSantis is right there with him. On issues like abortion, where the majority is far more split, DeSantis wants out of the debate. The only way to rationalize DeSantis as far right is to believe that not showing toddlers pornography is far-right.

Hillary Clinton is the more comparable example here. Hillary kept classified information on a private server and had them physically destroyed when discovered. The FBI gave her full decorum, her lawyers were kept involved, and unambiguous lies "I didn't know that "C" meant classified!" were allowed to go unpunished. Whether or not Hillary deserved to be punished or not is unimportant. If we think that offenses by powerful people beneath a certain degree shouldn't be punished, that's ok. There's only a problem if the decision to charge/not charge is being made with political calculations in mind.
