the only people who don't make negotiations in war are the people who die or lose so soundly they have no leverage left to negotiate with. losing gun ownership rights is a given, whether it's 50 years, 100 years, or 200 years. it will happen. its a matter of how bumpy that road is in the meantime, and you're just a bump.

Correction, a bump with a gun. ;)

America became an oligarchy 30 years ago and all those guns did nothing.

And yet that oligarchy is still pulling out all the stops to try to get rid of those guns.

Hmmm.

It's almost like those in power understand that if they push people too far, that it will suddenly be a problem for them.

Get rid of the guns, and they can push as hard as they want with no repercussions.

So... negotiate away my rights now, or lose them "inevitably" in some imagined future? Sign me up for the intractable camp.

no. ur right to own a firearm of some kind will likely not be taken away in your life time. certain firearms, maybe, but also imo unlikely. hurdles to clear to have say an ar 15, likely in your life time.

but preserving firearm ownership for your children or grand children's generation is on the table. or you can fight shadows telling you they're coming for your ar 15 in your life time and risk losing guns for all sooner. the harder steel is the easier it shatters. strength must be tempered so it can bend before it breaks. GOA and their zero compromise ilk are nothing but steel straight from a quench tank, it skates a file beautifully but drop it on the floor and its just pieces. i'd like my kids and their kids to be able to hunt without some sort of expensive lottery permit, and do it with a quality gun rather than a plastic break barrel piece of shit that's specifically been agreed upon by the fed and gun manufacturers thirsty to still sell guns once the ban waves land.

I'd like to think my children will be intractable too. Besides, FPC is beating back the government with relentless lawsuits and expanding our rights.

Pendulum's swing, make sure your neck is clear on the next change of direction and bank on the hopes that people forget school shootings quickly.

Republicans are about to take the house and gain a majority in the Senate. Gun control regs are toast for the immediate future.

trump banned bump stocks. major legislation off the table, compromise legislation still wide open, state level laws also wide open.

I can almost guarantee nothing will be passed in Congress as a result of Uvalde. Too many republican senators know it could hurt them for the midterms.

At the state level maybe, but the solution for that is to live in a red state. Blue states are self-destructing at this point anyway.

Trump did bump stocks, Gingrich did the AWB, Reagan did the NFA and the Mulford Act.
