The Trump cult is unlike any political following in modern history. They would wait days to get a ticket to a rally, risk a deadly virus, freeze themselves, and sink their boats. The extreme motivation for this was not basic and historical republican policy. What drove that extreme following was his extreme nationalism. It was his contention that the problems in American were grounded in people not like “us” changing the fabric of the country. We need to build a wall. We need to get rid of judges who can’t be objective because they are Mexican. Football players mothers are b*tches because they protest. They don’t have the same right that the rest of us do. His views on immigration, ethnicity, and race was the lighting rod that lead to this extreme adulation. It gave people with similar attitudes a home and made them comfortable expressing views they previously had to keep to themselves. Even if they were not overtly xenophobic, The Trump cult generally feels that “others” don’t understand what it is to be American. Trump gave them freedom they never felt before. This was never about conservative policy. It’s just want you guys hide behind.
trump somehow turned 60-80 year old people and unfuckable whites into apple fanboys willing to freeze in the cold for a 400 meter away view of an orange muppet looking boomer who just yells catch phrases and trails off at random parts of each sentence.
