You're not addressing the point, it can't be done competitively if they're producing low quality steel which most of it is

Actually, I'm not missing the point. You need to go back to the beginning of this topic and read some more.

Well, you're the one ignoring a few thousand jobs gained in steel being more than offset by tens of thousands facing downsizing in the auto industry. Never mind the higher prices to consumers forcing unneeded substitution decisions by them with fewer resources due to the rising price of steel.

hey guys, politicians, republicans, countries leaders; next time Trump announce another unrealistic 25% scarecrow tax, just ignore it. It won't happen, it's about time you understand how often Trump make empty threats.

If someday he really does something crazy like that; than it will time to react, dont waste your breath until then.

Well, as I've said many times already, in this topic... we'll see.

Maybe you should read through ALL the topic as well.

I you think the effect on US jobs is negative sum, then how do you explain the unions embracing and lauding the tariffs? They'd be the ones getting hurt or helped, and they say it helps.

The argument of free trade being positive sum vs zero sum protectionism is what the 2016 election was all about, and here we get to see the economic theories in praxis. Can you say with certainty the way it will turn out?

Depends on the Union you're talking to: "But even the Aluminum Association has argued the tariffs should target China specifically".
The number of jobs that will be impacted depends a lot on having a trade war with Europe or not.

The AFL-CIO, who represents steelworkers and automobile workers alike?
We're not going to have a trade war with europe because they are too exposed, BMW would poison Merkels streudel before they let her provoke reciprocal tariffs on minicoopers. Having both a trade deficit and lower tariffs means trump has all the leverage, they know it, he knows it. Europe will pass token posturing retaliation on bourbon, ranch dressing and testosterone or whatever but shrink away from real action on major sectors and go whine to the WTO and help Trump get reelected in the process

Europe will proceed equal retaliation, things are stopping here.
After all the only ones who started it are the americans isnt it ?
