If it offends people then it will have done its job. I don't really expect anybody to understand it, only be offended. But I expect somebody to walk by and be like "what's Darfur, TB, 8/31 (thank you goom), etc. etc." and do some googling and understand.



Making a huge deal out of 9/11 because it happened on our own soil cheapens every preventable death world wide.

Ah to be young and foolish enough again to think that simply offending people is noble...

I still don't understand why you want to offend people. Why do you have to put down one tragedy to get people to know about others? Wouldn't it make more sense to have them completely separate? I'd argue that you are actually hurting the other tragedies because people are going to ignore everything else and focus on your mockery of 9/11.

Why didn't you do an 8/31 remembrance on 8/31?

I don't think it is noble, only that it will draw attention to the message and possibly some good will come of it.



Because I did not know about it. I am the only one being consistent in my not caring. If you want to mourn 9/11, go right on ahead, but be consistent and care about the worse events that are happening in the present.

This year is more like a trial run. Next year it will better. I wish I had thought of this last year so I could have done a better one this year. I'm mostly going to observe reactions and have a good time.

I checked with the campus security director and no permission was given for any such demonstration ( as required under school policy ) which leads me to beleive he's making this up as he goes along .

Worse is completely subjective. To an average Iraqi, obviously 8/31 is worse than 9/11 because it directly affects them. I don't know anyone in Iraq but I do know people who died during 9/11. It may be self-centered, but if it affects you more, you're going to care about it more. Quite simply, 9/11 affected almost every American in one way or another. That's why people in America are remembering it while people in Vietnam aren't.

Also, you have to consider the intention. 8/31 was an accident due to panic. 9/11 was cold-blooded murder.

Only 3 people, 2 sets of Janga, and 2 pieces of poster-board are involved. To my knowledge that doesn't qualify as something that needs a permit. I've had friends do single banned book readings and the campus didn't require anything. I can remove the poster-board if that is needed even.

Enough attention seeking through negative behavior . Let's get back to the real purpose of this thread which is remembrance of the dead and personal memories of the event that changed this world forever .
