Jesus, what do they teach you in schools?
Australia is 80% of the size of north america, how exactly do you think the japanese were going to take and hold it?
They bombed ONE australian city, darwin, the port of darwin specifically, because the us were using it as a staging area.
And we would have held them off alone except most of our troops were fighting in europe while you americans war profiteered for the first THREE YEARS of the conflict.

10 seconds on google.

In early 1942, elements of the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) proposed an invasion of mainland Australia. This proposal was opposed by the Imperial Japanese Army and Prime Minister Hideki Tojo, who regarded it as being unfeasible, given Australia's geography and the strength of the Allied defences.

Japanese plans
Japan's plans for invading Australia included denying Australia as a base for Britain or America, and cutting Australia off from America. However, the Japanese Army felt they didn't have the strength to invade, and the Army won this argument.

As i said, they only gave a shit about us because we were backing the us and uk.

What did they teach me in school? lol you apparently believe australia is 80% the size of north america. There are 3 large countries in north america and two of them are bigger than Australia... Australia is like 30% the size of north america.

In your quote "the strength of Allied defences" means predominantly American defenses.

America tried to stay out of the war because they were duped into a pointless war of european belligerence the first time around, and then Europe ignored woodrow wilson's 14 points for peace and divided up the spoils in a way that couldn't help but to cause a second world war, including allowing Japan to keep all of their stolen colonies.

Again, without american involvement there was no reason to target australia, we had nothing of value, our entire value was as a staging area for the allies.

I agree, Australia is not great, but they still would have taken it.

How? How would they hold a country where one state is as big as 25 states of the us?
We lost 600 aussies to TEN THOUSAND japanese on the kokoda trail, and you think they are taking and holding us when your shitty army with more funding than the next 10 countries on earth combined couldn't take afghanistan or vietnam? Ok buddy.

Well the American military in vietnam and afghanistan wasn't willing to commit such atrocities as the rape of nanking or the baton death march. It is a lot easier to break a people when you are willing to do those sorts of things.

To be clear, America never tried to conquer vietnam or afghanistan, so it's not a reasonable comparison from the outset.

300-500 people were killed in mai lai... 40,000-300,000 were killed in nanking, and 20,000-80,000 rapes. Again, not a reasonable comparison.

The exact same tactic, just with less targets around, you said they were not willing to commit atrocities, they were both willing, able and did do such.
They also tried to kill far more but were thwarted, one helicopter pilot saved 200 woman and children by having his gunner threaten to fire on their fellow troops.
