What does a long term solution look like? There cannot be a two state solution after this, obviously. Gazans can't be expelled, where would they go? Cant fit 2 million in the Sinai. I think the DMZ is the logical outcome. Maybe the transfer of utility responsibilities to egypt and palestinians. That can work for Gaza, not the west bank
I think this is an incomplete view
Israeli wants them to leave, Netanyahu has been clear on this and reiterated it again in the last few days
The issue is when you’re born in the Gaza, you’re stuck in hell. Can’t go to Israel and can’t go to Egypt.
Your option to leave is to apply for asylum and fair play the percentages are decent if you are going this route.
Hamas has been a gigantic deterrent for asylum seekers. Women are not allowed to seek asylum through backwards law unless you have a spouse. Well if you’re widowed with kids you’re SOL. If you do leave you forfeit ALL your possessions to Hamas. It’s a difficult situation if you’re born into this hell hole.
What UN can do is assist those civilians who only want to live out of hell and to willing countries. Out of the 2 million, not all will want to leave and probably at best half. Last year alone ~90k Palestinians successfully left. 1 mill with global effort vs ~100k with no effort seems plausible. It will also be longer term cheaper. With coordinated efforts you can save a lot of lives this way.
