lol, live by the sword die by the sword. these are the same people who did a skit painting Trump as Grindelwald the villain to turn the movie political. Now they're facing cries of racism because they cast an asian woman as a character that turns eventually into a snake.

If you don’t see anything racist about an asian woman being the pet of a white man—who is basically magic hitler, I don’t know what to say.

It seems nagini pre-dates voldemort, and was working with grindelwald. grindelwald was the catalyst behind WW2 in the books, he literally orchestrated the holocaust and war to purge the earth of muggles. so yeah, the dude is racist.

voldemort himself had an army of inferi, magical created zombies from the people he killed. im not sure why it comes as a shock that he'd hook up with a magical snake lady. beyond that the allegations of racism are shallow, voldemort loves nagini above all things on earth. he's not capable of love but the snake is the only thing he feels anything for. all of his death eaters are "pets" to him, "pets" he'll just randomly kill off when he's mad.

also, as it was only teased in the trailer, we don't know yet by what process the Asian woman became a snake. people are assuming that voldemort made her turn into a snake to become his pet. when in reality it's far more likely she becomes the snake as an animagus, and perhaps gets stuck in the form. then later befriends voldemort because he can speak to snakes.

but none of that addresses the irony of the cast and crew, as well as JKR herself, consistently trying to appear woke, acting like a pack of sjws at every turn for free anti-trump sentiments press, to now get bitten by the snake they created. JKR sat on the "secret" that nagini was a person originally for 20 years, supposedly.

I mean, I could see how she could envision Nagini as an asian woman. Many east asian cultures have a lot of snake/dragon imagery and wein the west often associate them together and have been for a long time. Of course considering her recent track record it could simply be woke virtue signaling but in this case it's probable that she's telling the truth.

I laughed at the twitter comment saying she died killed by a white boy. I bet that woke person is doubly mad that she died to Neville who's literally the most useless white boy there ever was.

i am guessing here, but imo JKR has a long list of stuff she wanted to get into her characters but didnt have time. Dumbledore being gay, just never worked to put out there, especially given his close relationship mentoring a young boy. she she shoehorned it in sloppily years later. Newt Scamander wen't from a random book author for flavor text to a movie trilogy star and was always working with Dumbledore. Now nagini was always an asian lady. i accept she probably has notes to back this up, but she didnt work this stuff in novels because it wouldnt have worked. so the note itself doesnt mean much to me, George RR Martin has books full of supplementary note material, but he only includes things in the cannon that he actually wrote in, and admits his notes are scattershot of ideas he used and left behind. whereas JKR has a more "i meant for this all along" or "it was in my head the whole time", like, ok.

i just find it odd that the cries of racism dig so shallowly into the actual story. it seems to me to be "wow Asian lady + snake, dassa racism". just reaching. the culture she comes from is rich with it, and if they acknowledge that what we'll here next is "cultural appropriation!" because its in a british setting.

im mostly mad that this kills my fave all time headcannon HP theory. that being that since nagini was a simple snake with a lower intelligence the horcrux piece of tom riddles soul took over control of the animal, and therefore the reason that tom is so fond of the snake is because tom is the snake. he loves only himself, and keeps himself as a pet. shit was cool to think of, now its some asian lady who likes genocide. perhaps an Asian woman who's pro-genocide is just too close to home for some Asians. it does draw up imagery of their acts in war in WW2 and alliance with Hitler and Mussolini, and the role of genocide in all parties involved in europe and asia.

I thought that's how it was too with Tom Riddle's selfcest. I can relate to being bummed out this wasn't the case. It made sense she didn't put it in. The snake itself was more scary to young readers as a nameless extension of Voldemort the big meany. It didn't add anything to the villain.

Speaking of GRR Martin. Sort of relevant to note taking and stuff.

There's this sit down with him and Stephen King where they're talking about their writing process. Basically to paraphrase their long answer : Stephen King writes shit, doesn't get too caught up in the details and edits later. Which makes him a more prolific writer in terms of how much books he's published but also makes him a fairly uneven/hit and miss writer.

Martin on the other hand writes something, obsess over it, loses confidence and deletes. This is why winter is actually not coming. Next book anyday now...

i love that interview, watched it twice! im a huge king fan and GRRM fan so it really resonated with me. George oddly enough has always written like that but now that he's nearing the end he's so much slower and less confident. i cant imagine trying to tie together the strands he has left in the story with the level of detail, foreshadowing, and imagery that he writes with. i've read the main series maybe 10 times and the novellas 3-4 times, each read i catch a new detail that foreshadows future events or provides parallels. its some of the most brilliant writing i've ever seen. if he dies before finishing off the series it will be a really really big loss. im not even holding out hopes for the rest of the dunk and egg novella series, i just want TWOW and ADOS. if i never find out what happened at the tragedy of summerhall i'll be fine with just theorizing forever.

The worst part is that it is a real possibility since he's been obese for a while and he's 70. Please have good heart genetics George
