The opposite of capitalism is controlled economy. Venezuela, Cuba & the likes. You can't have controlled economies without centralization of power. Those go hand in hand.
Well, this didn't really get the heart of my question, which was about the general approach to discourse.
I would say, however, that there's a difference between planned economies and the major leftist rhetoric ideals in America. Only a very small percentage of leftists are actually fully opposed to capitalism to the point of wanting to burn the system down. Most "left-leaning", "progressives", etc. are fine with a mixed capitalist economy, but take issue with the wealth inequality prevalent in the United States and want the major cornerstones of society (like education and healthcare) to be publicly funded.
