and what does an economic genius like you say about the debt part of the post, or are we just gonna ignore that? you do remember that he promised to balance the budget, right?

I dont like how america is running up its debt.
If trump really promised to balance the budget, that's really silly. But lets not pretend like he's the first politician to make empty and unrealistic promises. Obama promised to heal the country and overcome its polarization. How did that turn out? Bush promised "compassionate conservatism", and then proceeded to set half the world on fire.

instead he's doing the exact opposite: he's actually rapidly accelerating the accumulation of debt...

is he really accelerating it? afaik, the deficit is at pretty much the same leve as during Obama's tenure, at roughly $1b per year.

when it comes to inflation: let's not jump to overhasty conclusions based on monthly data. inflation and jobs numbers typically get retrospectively corrected, and they are subject to massive volatility anyway.

Oangutan-in-chief's tweets are making oil prices high again! If you are to believe Iran's OPEC rep.

no matter how many whataboutisms you throw at me, they don't change the fact that trump didn't even TRY to keep this promise, but went on to do the exact OPPOSITE - and all the self-proclaimed 'fiscal conservatives' (at least when democrats are in charge) happily went along with it because it meant more money for them and their donors...

and yes, he is indeed accelerating it, mostly through the massive corporate welfare, taxbreaks for the rich, and increased military spending. ofc he will try to save some money by spending less on medicare and social security (he sure has his priorities 'right'), but since he didn't quite manage to make that policy yet, it's mostly not reflected in the projections.

I dont deny that Trump broke this promise and that the GOP's handling of the deficit is super hypocritical.

he expanded spending. but with a roaring economy, tax revenue will automatically go up as well. I dont think we'll be able to assess his fiscal legacy until several years after he's out of office.

and for the record: I didnt agree with the very corporate-heavy prioritization of the GOP tax bill, and I strongly suspect that it will increase the deficit in the long run. but trying to jump to this conclusion right now is way too early.

Trump/G.O.P.'s economic plan:

>trickle down economics/corporate tax cuts/tax cuts for the wealthy
>shit, that's not working like we thought it would so time for entitlement reform

Do we really need to wait years to know whether the standard Republican "tax cuts and spending increases" plan will be fiscally sustainable?
